Hi, I'm Debbie Mack. Art infuses every aspect of my life. Over the past six years I have been able to channel my creativity into painting and drawing. Entering my work in local shows and exhibitions, I have won a number of prizes and awards whilst also selling many of my works. However my reasons for making art continues to be my life-long fascination with connections between people and nature, and the always stimulating and unexpected stories revealed by cultural interactions.
I have recently completed formal studies in Fine Art at the Brisbane Institute of Art. I find that gaining knowledge and skills in such a variety of meduims such as sculpture, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, painting and photography has allowed me to express my creativity in ways I could never have imagined. Here I have developed greater depth and scope in my art-making. I love to paint in the open air. I find myself animated and inspired when outside, and I try to inject this vibe and energy into my art. My paintings are about discovery and the exploration of subjects, media and self. I love expressive brushmarks, colour and texture. Life drawing has also given me endless inspiration and I am frequently surprised at the emotion that I feel when I paint the model. My subjects are simple snapshots of life, whether they are busy street scenes or luscious ripe fruit, they all excite me and challenge me to discover their secrets.
I plan to continue to develop my own style using color and texture as a way of expressing my zest for life. I hope to communicate the life and energy I feel around me by uncovering the richness of ordinary people in ordinary situations.
